Note that some of these words are adverbs and some are adjectives. Give examples of how to use each, such as: "He plays tennis fairly well." "He is a good tennis player." "She's a terrible singer." "She can't sing at all." "He's an awful teacher." "She speaks English fairly well." "He can speak a little French." "She can't speak any Japanese."</text>

<hdr>Main Activity 2: My hobby or special skill</hdr>
<text>Dictation: (1) I enjoy playing tennis. (2) When the weather is good, I play tennis two or three times a week. (3) I usually play with some friends, including my boyfriend/girlfriend. (4) I can play fairly well, but my boyfriend/girlfriend is just a beginner. (5) He/She can't play very well, but sometimes I let him/her beat me. Have the students check for accuracy and then summarize the dictation. Then ask the student to make a short oral presentation about his/her hobby or special skill. <text>Focus on these words: better than, worse than, not as good as, much better than, a little better than, about as well as, even worse than, etc. Examples: She sings about as well as a baby. She's a much better singer than I am. He isn't as good a tennis player as his brother is. He doesn't play tennis as well as his sister does. I'm a little better at math than my brother is. He sings even worse than I do. I can't stand to listen to him.</text>

      <hdr>Main Activity 2: My seating preference</hdr>
<text>Dictation: (1) I really enjoy traveling by airplane. (2) I fly a lot, sometimes once or twice a month. (3) On long flights, I prefer an aisle seat to a window seat. (4) I like to be able to get up and move around. (5) I'd rather be able to do that than look out the window. Have student check for accuracy and then summarize the dictation. Note the use of 'that' in the last sentence. Then have student answer these questions: What does this person enjoy doing? How often does this person travel by plane? Why does this person prefer an aisle seat? How often do you fly? Where do you like to sit? What do you like about flying? What do you dislike about flying?</text>
