In the hot seat, the student should repeat the question asked to him/her (with the appropriate changes) and then answer it as follows: (Teacher) "What time did you get up this morning?" (Student) "What time did I get up? I got up around 6:15." (Teacher) "When did you leave your house?" (Student) "When did I leave my house? I left my house at 7:00." etc.  During this exercise, introduce and go over the irregular verbs that come up, such as: leave/left, get up/got up, eat/ate, go/went, take/took, etc.</text>

      <text>Put up a price list, talk about and compare the costs. Example: noodles $1.50; hot dog $2.00; hamburger $3.50; slice of pizza $2.50; banana 50 cents; apple 50 cents; fresh fruit juices $1.50; chicken salad $2.00; milk 75 cents; chocolate bar 50 cents, etc.  Example sentences:  A hamburger costs more than a hot dog. How much more does it cost?  It costs a dollar fifty more.  How much is a hot dog and fruit juice?  A hot dog and fruit juice cost $3.50.  How many bananas/hot dogs can you buy for a dollar?  Note the difference between 'how much' and 'how many'.  Have students practice in pairs and role play buying lunch.</text>

      <text>Practice in pairs and then role play Dialog 1 from Unit 7 or a variation.  Then summarize the dialog:  Judy calls Maria, but Maria isn't at home.  Maria's mother answers the phone.  She says Maria isn't home.  Judy says she will call back later.  Maria's mother says Maria will be back in about 2 hours.  Judy thanks Maria's mother. Go over these key expressions, and have the class repeat them several times:  "May I speak to X, please?" "X isn't here right now."  "I'll call her back later.  When will she/he be back?" etc.</text>

Have the students check for accuracy and then summarize the dictation. Then ask follow-up questions like: 'Who did they visit?' 'How did they get there?' 'Where did they go after they arrived?' 'What was in the store?' "Where do your grandparents live?" "When did you see them last?"  "When will you see them next?" "How often do you visit them?" "Do they have any pets?" etc.</text>

(2) I've got to finish a book. (3) See you tomorrow. etc.  Note that 'I have to do something' and 'I've got to do something' mean the same thing.</text>
